Welcome to AI Dietitians: less admin, more dietetics
If you are an Accredited Practising Dietitian, you did not train for the paperwork. You trained to assess, to plan, and to help people eat well in the context of their health. Yet a large share of the working day goes to reading referrals, writing notes, drafting letters, and building handouts. That is the gap AI Dietitians was built to close.
This first post is a short introduction to what AI Dietitians is, who it is for, and how it aims to give you time back without taking your judgement out of the loop.
What AI Dietitians is
AI Dietitians is Australian clinical dietetics software that supports the full Nutrition Care Process, from the incoming referral through to a chart-ready note. It is built on Australian clinical content, including AUSNUT 2023, IDDSI, the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, and the NHMRC Nutrient Reference Values.
It is not a scribe that only writes notes, and it is not a food database that only calculates nutrients. It works across the whole process:
- Reading and structuring referrals so you start with the facts, not a blank page.
- Drafting the assessment, the PES statement, the plan, and the letter.
- Building patient education handouts you can review and send.
- Running the clinical calculators you already use, in one place.
Your judgement stays in charge
Every output AI Dietitians produces is a draft. It is there to save you the first ninety per cent of the typing, not to make a clinical decision. You read it, adjust it, and sign it. Nothing goes to a patient or another provider until you say so.
We think that is the honest way to use this technology in a clinical setting. The dietitian is accountable for the work, so the dietitian stays in control of the work. AI Dietitians is the drafting assistant, and you are the clinician.
Built for Australian practice
A lot of nutrition software is built for other markets and lightly adapted. AI Dietitians is built here, for how dietetics is actually practised in Australia. That shows up in the small things that matter: the spelling, the food composition data, the texture and fluid frameworks, and the reference values your reports need to cite.
It also shows up in tone. The drafts aim to sound like a considered Australian clinician, not a generic template, so you spend your review time refining substance rather than rewriting style.
Where to start
The best way to understand AI Dietitians is to run it on a real case. Take a referral you would normally work through by hand, and let AI Dietitians draft the first pass. Compare it against what you would have written, and see how much of the groundwork is already done.
We will use this space to share practical writing for dietitians: how to get the most out of the workflow, what is new, and how we think about building clinical software responsibly. If there is something you would like us to cover, we would like to hear it.
Welcome to AI Dietitians. Let us give you your afternoons back.
