Attributions and Data Sources

AI Dietitians is built on published clinical evidence, open government data and open source software. This page records what we use, who publishes it, and the terms we use it under. It is the attribution required by several of the licences below, and it is also there so a clinician can trace any number in the product back to its source.
If something here is wrong, out of date, or missing an attribution it should have, please tell us at copyright@aidietitians.com.au. We fix attribution problems quickly.
Trademarks
AI Dietitians refers to nutrition products, enteral and parenteral formulas, and oral nutrition supplements by their commercial names so that clinicians can find the product they mean. Those names are the property of their owners.
All product and company names are the trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective owners. Use of a name does not imply any affiliation with, endorsement by, or sponsorship from its owner. AI Dietitians is not affiliated with any manufacturer or distributor of nutrition products.
This includes, without limitation, products and marks of Abbott Laboratories, Nestlé Health Science, Nutricia and Danone, Fresenius Kabi, and Baxter Healthcare. Nutritional values shown for commercial products are compiled from publicly available manufacturer product information. They are indicative, they are not supplied or verified by the manufacturer, and formulations change — always check the current product label or product information sheet before prescribing.
IDDSI Framework
The texture and consistency levels used throughout AI Dietitians are those of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardisation Initiative.

IDDSI level descriptions, testing methods and level colours reproduced or adapted within AI Dietitians are made available under the same CC BY-SA 4.0 terms. Derivatives of that IDDSI-derived content may be shared under that licence. This does not extend to the rest of the AI Dietitians software, which is separate and proprietary.
Nutrient reference values and dietary guidelines
- Nutrient Reference Values for Australia and New Zealand. National Health and Medical Research Council and New Zealand Ministry of Health. Canberra: NHMRC; 2006, updated 2017. Used for recommended dietary intakes, adequate intakes, estimated average requirements and upper levels throughout the reference tables and calculators.
- Australian Dietary Guidelines and the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating. National Health and Medical Research Council. Canberra: NHMRC; 2013. Used for recommended daily serves by age and sex.
- WHO Child Growth Standards (2006) and WHO Growth Reference (2007). World Health Organization, Geneva. LMS parameters used for paediatric BMI-for-age z-scores and percentiles.
NHMRC material is used under the Creative Commons Attribution licence under which it is published. World Health Organization material is used in accordance with the WHO permissions terms applying to that material. Neither the NHMRC nor the WHO endorses AI Dietitians or has reviewed how their material is applied here.
Food composition data
The whole-food composition figures shown in the food reference, meal-planning, carbohydrate-counting and blended tube feeding tools are derived from the Australian Food Composition Database, Release 3 (23 December 2025).

Food composition values derived from that database within AI Dietitians are made available under the same CC BY-SA 3.0 AU terms. This does not extend to the rest of the AI Dietitians software, which is separate and proprietary, nor to the enteral formula, parenteral nutrition and oral nutritional supplement product data, which we hold under other terms and which is not FSANZ-derived. Where a food in the reference tables comes from manufacturer data rather than the FSANZ database, it is recorded and displayed as such.
Energy in kilocalories is derived by AI Dietitians from the kilojoule values FSANZ publishes; the database itself publishes kilojoules only. Values shown for a food may also be flagged as imputed where FSANZ records the food as calculated from a recipe, borrowed from another food, or estimated rather than directly analysed.
Limitation of Data Statement
Food composition data in this database may represent an average of the nutrient content of a particular sample of foods. The nutrient composition of foods and ingredients can vary substantially between batches and brands because of factors such as season, processing, soil and growing conditions. Values should be treated as indicative of a food rather than exact for a given sample.
Where authoritative composition data is required — for research, for food labelling, or for any purpose where precision matters — use the source directly at foodstandards.gov.au. FSANZ does not endorse AI Dietitians or review how its data is applied here.
Therapeutic diets and health service data
- Therapeutic Diet Specifications for Adult Inpatients. NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation. Used as the diet code vocabulary in the oral nutrition support compatibility checks. Diet codes are abbreviated for use in the product; the ACI publication is the authoritative specification.
- National Hospital Cost Data Collection and National Efficient Price determinations. Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA). Used to derive the indicative complication-uplift figures in the malnutrition coding tools. Those figures are indicative only and are not a billing prediction; the authoritative tariff is the one in effect at discharge as applied by your health service's coding pipeline.
Nutrition screening and assessment instruments
AI Dietitians implements the following published instruments. Each remains the work of its authors and publishers, cited here and in the product:
- MST — Ferguson M, Capra S, Bauer J, Banks M. Development of a valid and reliable malnutrition screening tool for adult acute hospital patients. Nutrition 1999;15(6):458–464. Published by Elsevier; reproduction permissions are handled by the publisher.
- NRS-2002 — Kondrup J, Rasmussen HH, Hamberg O, Stanga Z. Nutritional risk screening (NRS 2002): a new method based on an analysis of controlled clinical trials. Clinical Nutrition 2003;22(3):321–336.
- GLIM criteria — Cederholm T, Jensen GL, Correia MITD, et al. GLIM criteria for the diagnosis of malnutrition — a consensus report from the global clinical nutrition community. Clinical Nutrition 2019;38(1):1–9.
Scoring thresholds and clinical interpretation guidance shown alongside these instruments are expressed in our own words. Where an instrument's publisher requires permission for use in software, we seek it; where an instrument's guidance is reproduced under permission, that permission is noted on the tool itself.
Medicines and drug–nutrient interactions
Interaction entries are compiled from Therapeutic Goods Administration Product Information, NPS MedicineWise consumer and health professional resources, and the primary literature, with each entry recording the source it was derived from. The database covers interactions relevant to clinical dietetics practice and is not a complete medicines reference. It does not replace a current pharmacopoeia, your hospital formulary, or advice from a pharmacist.
Open source software
AI Dietitians is built with open source software, overwhelmingly under the MIT, ISC, Apache 2.0 and BSD licences. The complete list of components, their licences and their copyright notices is published at https://app.aidietitians.com.au/legal/notices.txt and is regenerated with every release.
Artificial intelligence services
Generation features use large language and image models supplied by OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. Content you enter is processed by those providers under their commercial terms to produce output for you. It is not used to train their models. See our Privacy Policy for how information is handled, and our Terms of Use for how generated output may be used.
